Tip Sheet | October 2017 October 16th, 2017 Interviews by Eliza R. Williams 10/18/2017 For this edition, I asked three business owners how they show gratitude to their employees for the hard work they put in on the daily. Here’s what they had to say. Amy Wong, Dot Org Solutions Marketing and fundraising for nonprofits, small businesses, and startups. “I try to say thank you as much as possible; celebrate special occasions – usually with sushi or Mexican food; give extra time off around the holidays; and call an occasional snow day.” Gretchen Horinger, Do Good Yoga Yoga studio with a focus on creating positive change. “I like to leave handwritten notes at the studio for my teachers acknowledging things I appreciate about their character, what they contribute to making our space unique & special, or just expressing my gratitude for something they did.” Katie Sutter, Excelsior Marking Machining, prepress, marking and signage services. “I believe you can never underestimate the power of two little words – Thank You. You can offer the people you work with more money, free lunches, gift cards, afternoons off…but these never replace a simple ‘Thank you’.” Eliza R. Williams primarily writes emails, poetry, and grants for causes that advance arts & culture, sustainability, and social justice. When she grows up, she wants to be a journalist.
