The Devil Strip’s mission is to connect readers to their neighbors, to our city and to a sense of shared purpose by helping them understand Akron, find their people and get involved with a community committed to making this a better place to live.

Chris Horne (President)
Chris (he/him) is native of Macon, Georgia, president of The Devil Strip, husband to Dr. Heather Braun, and co-creator of 10-year-old Maddy. He was a 2019 John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University and a 2018 National Arts Strategies Creative Community Fellow. He’s an alumnus of The 11th Hour, The (Macon) Telegraph, 13WMAZ, WEWS-TV, Applebee’s, Play It Again Sports, Terminix, Saturn Drive Baptist Church and Waffle House. He loves what he does and needs no other hobbies but has a faint memory of a time when he read and wrote for pleasure.

Jessica Holbrook (Editor-in-Chief)
Jessica Holbrook (she/her) is the editor in chief of The Devil Strip. Jes is an Ohio native, a graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University and a former news reporter, most recently at The Canton Repository. In her news career she’s covered everything from the opioid epidemic to the recycling industry to cat fashion shows. Jes loves Akron, cooking competition reality shows and discovering new things. She and her husband, David Schuler, have a one-year-old daughter, Lydia.

Floco Torres (Audience Development Director)
Floco (he/him) is The Devil Strip’s Audience Development Director, as well as a Recording Artist & Producer. He is activity driven and design focused. Most of his careers & passions have come from a simple curiosity and following a thread. He wants to encourage as many people as possible to get outside, find a thread & follow it. You never know where you’ll end up.

Jessica Goldbourn(Director of Membership)
Jessica (she/her) is a community advocate, oenophile, and lover of art. An art history graduate of Kent State University, she discovered her love of art and culture early watching PBS on Saturday mornings. WSET certified means she’s a real fancy wine drinker, who knows her stuff and loves to share her quest for the best value wine available. Anna Adelman(Client Solutions Director)
Anna (she/her) grew up in Akron and is a U of A graduate with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Theatre, Film & Child Development, and marketing. She attended improv classes at Chicago’s Second City, where she learned she’s more comfortable writing comedy than performing. She enjoys developing workplace sit-coms and wants to be a screenwriter when she grows up. She cut her teeth at The National Inventors Hall of Fame (Inventure Place), where she promoted Camp Invention/STEM programs. She’s married to Rachel, has two cats, an awesome Mom, and a dad whom she misses. She’s an Aquarius.

Sonia Potter (Digital Manager)
Sonia (she/her) is a 2019 graduate of The University of Akron Williams Honors College, where she earned her B.A. in English and creative writing. In her spare time, you can find her reading for pleasure, tending to her garden, and cooking like a madwoman.

Abbey Marshall (Economic Development Reporter)
Abbey Marshall (she/her) is The Devil Strip’s economic development reporter. She graduated from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in 2020 and joins The Devil Strip team via Report for America. She likes musical theater, playing violin and hiking with her corgi who never seems to run out of energy.

H.L. Comeriato (they/them) is The Devil Strip’s public health reporter. They earned their B.A. from the University of Akron Williams Honors College in 2017, and are joining The Devil Strip team as a Report for America corps member. Above all else, they believe in the power of community, collective joy, and a good old-fashioned pizza party.

Derek Kreider (Distribution Manager)
Derek (he/him) is The Devil Strip’s Distribution Manager. Derek is also a freelance writer and (when the bars are open) can occasionally be spotted playing in bands with his friends. He believes in doing the best he can, always asking questions, and never stopping learning.

Allyson Smith (Client Solutions Assistant)
Allyson (she/her) is a client solutions representative and content creator for The Devil Strip. She graduated from The University of Akron in 2018 with a B.A. in Media Production and a minor in anthropology. In 2019, she was named Summit County Historical Society’s Woman To Watch, in addition to winning an Emmy for producing through The University of Akron’s ZTV. When she isn’t working on various projects for The Devil Strip, she can be found cooking, studying the occult, or getting lost on one of Summit County Metro Park’s many trails.
