This community of passionate people will all walk with one cause: to help end MS forever. Registration required. This event is free, though donations are encouraged. Check-in starts at 11 am.

Bring your own bag and fill it with whatever used craft supplies you want, all donated by Akron artists and makers. $5 to participate. Inside Akron’s Tent City (2019)

The Nightlight // Official selection for the 43rd Cleveland International Film Festival,  “Inside Akron’s Tent City” explores local homelessness and the community’s attempt to stay organized despite the efforts of officials to displace them. The film was shot on an iPhone with a budget of less than $1,000, filmmakers say. Showings available throughout the week. Visit nightlightcinema.com for showtimes and tickets.

Summit Lake Loop Trail Kick-Off

Summit Lake Community Center // 12 pm – 3 pm // Join the Summit Lake Community as they celebrate the opening over the new Loop trail with music, food, walking tours and gifts. An inaugural jog/stroll will take place at 2 pm beginning at the Summit Lake Pavillion. The new Loop Trail stretches 2.1 miles around Summit Lake, connecting the communities on either side. This event is free, but the first 100 people to register will receive a t-shirt.

The Devil Strip Socials: “Dig” Party at Square Records

Square Records // 3 pm – 5:30 pm // Join us for our first every “Dig” party! Meet us at Square Records and shop around for a record while the Mighty Soul DJs spin some tunes. For those that buy a record, sign up to share why you bought that record and play a song of your choosing off it for the audience. Not only will you get a new record to add to your collection, but we’ll get to learn about some great new music! This event is free.

Crooked River Contrasts Panel Discussion

Summit Artspace // 7 pm – 8 pm // Crooked Rivers Contrast is a photography exhibition featuring up-and-coming Northeast Ohio photographers that explores the rich history of the Cuyahoga River and its rebirth following its burning in 1969. A panel discussion will take place on May 16 to go more in-depth about the themes the exhibition presents and discuss thoughts, stories and memories about the river. Registration required. This event is free. Crooked River Contrasts is on view until May 18.

Ma’Sue Productions Big Blue Legacy Ball Fundraiser

Akron Civic Theatre // 5:30 pm – 10 pm // Support local theatre company Ma’Sue Productions by attending a night of music and food in celebration of their ninth year in operation. The Big Blue Ball will include a screening of Milkweed, a locally produced film about West Akron, at 6 pm, followed by a party with bands and a silent auction. Cash bar available. $22.85 including Eventbrite fees.

Let’s Grow Akron Plant Sale

First Congregational Church of Akron // 9 am – 3 pm // Kick off summer with vegetable, herb and flower seedlings grown organically in Akron. Proceeds benefit the Let’s Grow Akron Community Farm and the Feed My Sheep Garden. Admission is free.

Float the River Opening Weekend

Waterworks Park // 10:30 am – 6 pm // Join Float the River for their inaugural inner tube rides down the Cuyahoga River. Rides travel from Waterworks Park to Downtown Cuyahoga Falls in 2.5 hours. $20 per tube rental, including shuttle ride. Register at floattheriver.net.

Better Block: Copley Road

Copley Road // May 24 from 6 pm – 10 pm, May 25 from 11 am – 4:30 pm // Join Better Block in a reimagining of Copley Road between Frederick Boulevard and South Hawkins Avenue. The two-day event will feature community vendors, music, food and more. Come share your vision for the block. Free.
