JingleDog

Firestone Park // 9 am // Bring your dog to the Tuscarawas Shelter in Firestone Park for a 5k fun run or one-mile trail course for humans and canines alike. All participants in the 5k will receive T-shirts and medals, as well as the opportunity for photo opportunities with Santa, cider, hot chocolate and other refreshments. Proceeds from this event will benefit RunningDog, which is a volunteer program that helps exercise and socialize homeless dogs in order to make them more adoptable. Be sure to register beforehand. $10 – $35.

1964 the Tribute

Tangier Event & Entertainment Center // 8:30 pm // Rolling Stone calls them the “Best Beatles Tribute on Earth” and says that they “concentrate on that single moment in time when The Beatles took the stage by storm and captured the hearts and minds of the world.” Enjoy an evening of music by the phenomenal Beatles tribute band, 1964. Tickets should be purchased ahead of time. $40 and up.

Northeast Ohio Tabletop Games Playtesting

Nervous Dog Coffee Bar // 7 pm // Gather at the Nervous Dog Coffee Bar to chat about game design and playtest games. Playtesting will begin at 7 pm and last until 10 pm, when the Nervous Dog closes. If you’re an aspiring game designer, feel free to bring your game along to test it out. New game designers have priority toward the beginning of the evening. This event is free and open to the public.

Dig In: Jenniva Cummings

Akron Art Museum // 6:30 – 8 pm // Hosted by The Devil Strip and the Akron Art Museum, this event will feature the work of Jenniva Cummings, a special effects and makeup artist. Visitors can watch a video profile of Jenniva in the museum’s Jerry and Patsy Shaw Video Box. The performance is free and open to the public.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Akron Civic Theatre // 7:30 pm // Join the Peanuts gang for a fresh, live performance of this timeless holiday classic, backed by the musical genius of Vince Guaraldi. This performance will feature an expansion of the original storyline, an intermission and a celebration of song afterwards, during which the audience will be invited to sing along with the Peanuts gang. Tickets should be purchased ahead of time. $27 – $47.

Lightwire: A Very Electric Christmas

Akron Civic Theatre // 7:30 pm // Spend an evening enjoying the talents of America’s Got Talent semi-finalists as they showcase talent that combines puppetry, theater and dance with timeless holiday musical hits. This innovative theatrical experience will be sure to dazzle audience members with its neon characters that seem to magically appear from the darkness, telling a story of family, friendship and hope. Tickets should be purchased ahead of time. $20 – $35.

Rebranding the City: A Humanizing Tour of Akron

F. A. Seiberling Nature Realm // 6:30 pm // This event features a series of theatrical vignettes that aims to inspire people to come to (or remain in) Akron. This performance is based on interviews with people from a variety of neighborhoods in Akron and serves as an attempt to examine the city while simultaneously giving voice to its residents. This event is free and open to the public and is most suitable for ages 12 and up.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze

E.J. Thomas Hall and UA Events // 7:30 pm // Featuring a cast of some of the most unique cirque artists in the nation, this event pays homage to Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year’s in a two-hour spectacle comprised of over 300 costumes, 20 world-class acts, original music and singers. The audience is sure to be amazed by the stunning acrobatics and gravity-defying tricks. Tickets should be purchased ahead of time. $37 and up.

Israel 201: The Holiday of Holidays

Schultz Campus for Jewish Life // 7 pm // Israel’s third largest city, Haifa, symbolizes religious coexistence. In December, it celebrates Christmas, Hanukkah and Ramadan. Harry Potter Glow Flow

Yoga Squared // 7 pm // All wizards, witches and muggles alike are invited to join Andrea for an evening of Harry Potter yoga fun. Glow necklaces, bracelets and wands will be provided, and participants are welcome to wear their best glow-in-the-dark or Harry Potter gear. After class, vegan, non-alcoholic Butterbeer will be provided. $25.

6th Annual Selfless Elf 5k

Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank // 8 am // Don a festive holiday-themed costume or running clothes for this run/walk, which will benefit the Foodbank. Santa Claus will stop by after the race. Registration is available in advance and on race day. $35 – $40.

NYE Rainbow Ball

Akron Civic Theatre // 7:30 pm – 12:30 am // Hosted by the Akron Pride Festival and the Akron Civic Theatre, this is sure to be one of the most colorful and inclusive New Year’s Eve parties around. The entry fee includes the entertainment of Dorianne Denard & Friends, food catered by Moe’s Restaurant, access to an open bar, dancing and queen appearances by Cherry Veneer and 2018 Miss Akron Pride Festival Alejandra J-Love. This event is for ages 21 and over. Tickets should be purchased ahead of time. $100.
