Before we begin, let me preface this month’s Akron Pizza Task Force by saying that pineapple definitely belongs on pizza. If you disagree, then 1) you’re missing out on great pizza and 2) you should probably stop reading this article right now.
So . . . now that the pineapple-on-pizza haters are gone, I’ll begin. After a night in Cleveland watching David Giffels read from his new book, Furnishing Eternity, Katie Stephan and I were happy to visit 3 Guys Pizza Pies in North Akron near Chapel Hill and indulge in our favorite food. Because 3 Guys Pizza Pies is pick up or delivery only, I called and ordered it on our way back to Akron.
To be honest, my expectations of 3 Guys Pizza Pies were low. My pizza toppings of choice are usually pineapple, green olives and jalapenos (a.k.a the best pizza toppings ever). Unfortunately, Three Guys Pizza Pies didn’t have green olives or jalapenos. Obviously, this threw me off my pizza-ordering game, so I ended up changing my order about seven times (they have great customer service skills, thankfully). Finally, I settled on pineapple, black olives, and banana peppers. Same thing, right? No, but I tried.
When we arrived, our pizza was fresh out of the oven. I ordered a small (four-piece pizza) and it came out to $8.74. It’s a bit pricey, but it was worth it (despite my hella weird order). I’m also thankful that the pizza wasn’t greasy or messy because we ended up eating in my car. Fancy, I know. Three Guys Pizza Pies even gave us plates and napkins to help with our car eating adventure.
I could always use more cheese, but 3 Guys Pizza Pies felt like the perfect amount of cheese. It was evenly distributed and didn’t fall off every time I picked my pizza up. I felt the same about the sauce and toppings. Because of this, I didn’t spend half the night wiping pizza from my seats, so it was a win-win overall.
3 Guys Pizza Pies is definitely the place you want to go to if you ever feel like eating in your car after a night of literature fun. It’s also a great place if you ever feel like eating pizza, in general. I hear they sell great wings, too. I would recommend 3 Guys Pizza Pies, unless you’re a lover of green olive and jalapenos. If you are, you’ve been warned.
