Let Theatre Come to You: Summit StageFest

by Josy Jones

“If people won’t go to the theater, the theater should go to them.”

Thus, the Summit StageFest was born. Jane Bond of Partners for Theater (partnersfortheater.org) loves theatre and was disturbed by the amount of people she spoke to who had never seen live theatre. If you are one of those people, fear not. Summit StageFest is June 3 and will be filled with theater from Northeast Ohio, including Shakespeare, “Hairspray,” Improv, a puppet show and so much more!

How much does it cost? Absolutely nothing. Don’t try to use the kids as an excuse either. The event is family-friendly and will include food and vendors, giving them plenty to do. The event will be from 11 am to 6 pm and will give you the opportunity to sample as much theatre as you’d like.

Northeast Ohio has some amazing theatre. This is a perfect opportunity to give theatre a chance and celebrate the talented performers we have. If you have never seen live theatre, you should be there, and even if you have, come out and support anyway. It is like a music festival, where you can walk around to different stages to enjoy the acts. Except this time, the acts are live theatre!

I talk a lot about the importance of supporting theatre, although I am obviously biased. It is an art form that is sometimes severely overlooked. Yet, here in Ohio, we have a talented performing arts community with amazing shows. Come check out the Summit StageFest and sample theatre from companies in the area and pick a new favorite company. That way, the next time you want to go to dinner and a movie, you can enjoy dinner and theatre instead.
