North Akron Savings Bank is no more. The location is still open but its landmark marquee has been taken down, stickered over with a sign for the new owner, Peoples Bank.
The Marietta, Ohio-based bank has branches throughout the Buckeye State as well as West Virginia and Kentucky. They announced the completion of its $20.1 million acquisition of North Akron Savings on October 24, according to a news release on the company’s website.
A day later, the bank welcomed its new North Hill employees with a friendly Facebook post. Nothing was said about the marquee. It’s unclear when it was taken down and what happened to it.
The Akron Beacon Journal reported the acquisition in April, noting the process began casually with a conversation between bank presidents last December.
A few folks tweeted pictures of the North Akron Savings Bank’s changed look with the words “Losing a piece of our history” and some home of at least finding a new home for the sign.
