When singer-songwriter Ryan Humbert approached us about promoting a surprise release of Shooter Sharp & The Shootouts’ new record, we thought, “Groovy! We like surprises!”

And we thought it was even groovier when we learned how they planned to do it: today, June 20, 2016, ten different media outlets throughout Northeast Ohio will each exclusively debut a different track from the album on their respective websites.

So, here’s your link, folks. Enjoy “Rattlesnake Whiskey.”

About “Rattlesnake Whiskey”:

“This song is loosely based on a old wives’ tale I read in a book about the history of Louisville, OH for a project with ArtsinStark,” says Ryan Humbert. “It claimed that gentlemen would carry a flask of bootleg whiskey around to pour into the mouths of attacking rattlesnakes to fend them off. I wasn’t aware we had a lot of rattlesnakes in Northeast Ohio, and maybe this story is why. Regardless, I thought it would be fun to write a song about the guys who were bootlegging back in the day. We kind of wanted a darker, ‘spaghetti western’ vibe on this one.”

Known throughout northeastern Ohio and beyond for his energetic concerts, unique blend of Americana-pop music, and involvement in local fundraising activities, award-winning singer-songwriter Ryan Humbert is now bringing tradition back to country music through his side-project, Shooter Sharp & the Shootouts.

A quartet composed of Humbert, lead guitarist Brian Poston, bassist Dan Nauss, and drummer Dylan Gomez, the group is releasing its first album on today, June 20, 2016.

Recorded at Crushtone Studios in Cleveland with award-winning engineer Jim Stewart in April of 2016, Shooter Sharp & The Shootouts prove themselves to be more than just a country music cover band with their first project. Originally meant to be a small set of demos, the group ended up recording ten songs in less than 24 hours. For the recording, The Shootouts were joined by Northeast Ohio music scene veterans Al Moss (pedal steel) and Bill Lestock (mandolin, violin) as well as Humbert’s longtime singing partner Emily Bates.

Along with the album’s surprise release, fans will have numerous opportunities to catch The Shootouts in concert this summer. The group will appear at various venues and special events in Kent, Mogadore, Canton, and Akron, including the City of Akron Summer Concert Series at Goodyear Heights Metro Park, the Kent Heritage Festival, the Stark County Fair, and others.
