Name: Forrest Webb (aka – DJ Forrest Getemgump)
Hometown/Home now: Akron/New York City/Green
Occupation: Owner of Calhoun Recordshop
What’s the Big Idea?
“My Big Idea is to share all of my knowledge and experience about records that I acquired from working at one of New York City’s most reputable record shops aka Big City Records. I’m bringing a Big City-style record shop to a smaller town. Instead of reading about certain records in magazines/blogs/websites or having to go on ebay to buy certain records, I want people to walk in and actually see those records for sale in my shop. When people pass through I don’t want them to be surprised if you see famous producers and artists like Large Professor, Lord Finesse, J-Zone and Dug Infinite in here stocking up on records. Yes they have all been on here on the low.”
Why do you pursue your Big Idea?
“I was born with it and it was passed down through the genes. I could never walk away completely. However people need to have other hobbies and interest besides their passion especially with records. This profession in particular drives people crazy to the point where I have met some record dealers who could use a bath and deodorant.”
When did you know your Big Idea was a good idea?
“I knew it was a good idea when I found a cheap store front for rent. Yes I had pleasant surprises. Some of my New York City customers found their way here.”
