Art Bomb Brigade, consisting of local artist Matt Miller, program director Elisa Gargarella and over 20 Akron students, worked for two weeks in June to bring a lively splash of color to the Downtown Laundromat at 1035 South Main Street. Now, it is time to celebrate.

On July 8 from 6 – 9 pm, Art Bomb Brigade will be hosting a free public event with live music from local band The Dreemers, Stone Pelican Rolling Cafe and Stray Dog food trucks, Crafty Mart, Little Chicago Clothing, and the Akron Art Museum will be hosting a free community art project.

Gargarella, professor of Art Education at The University of Akron, is one of the winners of the 2016 Knight Arts Challenge from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Her creative idea is partnering with Arts LIFT, a long-standing summer art apprenticeship program created by Gargarella, to give students from Akron Public Schools and The University of Akron the chance to work under the guidance of a local artist to “mural bomb” cities in need of a makeover.
